World Gin Day is happening on Saturday 9th June

It’s World Gin Day on Saturday 9th June and what better way to celebrate the occasion than by trying out some of the great gin bars Cardiff has to offer?

This will be the tenth year World Gin Day has been running and we’re eager to get in the, ahem, spirit. But where to go? We’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of the best places to find gin this weekend.

Gin & Juice

Located in Castle Arcade, which is becoming one of the hotspots for local nightlife, Gin & Juice is one the coolest places in Cardiff to go for a drink. The menu is far from conventional. Why not try a Turkish Delight gin liquer? Or a strawberry and vanilla gin? Or perhaps an Espresso Gintini tickles your fancy? They’re all delicious!

Recommendation –  Brooklyn Gin with Aromatic Fever Tree tonic

Address – 3-5, High Street Arcade, Cardiff CF10 1PY

CFeleven

If you’re fed up of drinking the same old gins then CFeleven could be the place for you. The gin bar has over 120 gins on its menu. It’s within a mile of the city centre, on Cathedral Road in Pontcanna, ‘the Notting Hill of Cardiff’. With so many gins available, it’s probably a good job that CFeleven is also a hotel, although you may feel a bit wobbly by the time you walk up the stairs.

Wally’s

You don’t necessarily have to leave the house to celebrate World Gin Day. You can get in the spirit by getting in the spirits (we can only apologise for these jokes). If you’d like to stock up on tasty gins to enjoy at home then Wally’s is a great option for any discerning gin fan. With over 90 gins , there are some interesting flavours available, including orange marmalade, coffee and dark chocolate liquer, and, for those with a sweet tooth, salted caramel.

Wally’s recommendation – Bluecoat American dry gin
They are also offering 10% off any full sized bottle of gin from the 9th – 11th June 2018

Baroque

Baroque is one of the best new bars around. It’s in Penarth and they specialise in gin and rum. Of course, it’s World Gin Day, so we’re going to concentrate on the gin for now. Baroque has a ‘bespoke’ selection of  over 40 gins, and there is some choice it may be hard to pick just one. Not to worry – Baroque also offer ‘tasting flights’ so you can sample a number of different gins as part of a package deal.

Eccentric Gin

Gin is one of the hippest, if not the hippest, spirits in the world right now, and gin bars and distilleries are shooting up like daisies. In Cardiff we’re lucky to have one of the best gin joints going. Eccentric Gin create beautiful speciality gins, such as Madame Geneva, Limbeck, Young Tom, and Cardiff Dry, all distinctively made and packaged.

The Dock

The Bay is always is a great place to go for a drink, and if you want a gin while you’re there this weekend, The Dock should be your first port of call (again, we’re sorry). There’s an excellent cocktail menu, featuring a gin-based naughty called the Bramble. There are plenty of individual gins, too, their sources ranging from Scotland to Seville. The Dock also provide gin serves. These are serving recommendations to make the most of your tipple of choice.

The Dock’s recommendation – Brockmans gin with the Light fever tree tonic (served with frozen blueberries and grapefruit )

Address – Mermaid Quay, Stuart St, Cardiff CF10 5BZ

Cardiff Gin Club

Well, it’s in the name, really. Cardiff’s gin aficionados, or Ginsters, will already be well aware of the Gin Club. The club organise events at venues all around Cardiff for like-minded souls to meet up and have fun. They’re also a restless, constantly on the lookout for ‘new craft distillers, new venues offering gin and juniper based events going on around our great city’. If you want to know quite how seriously the Gin Club takes their passion, we recommend having a read of their ten commandments, which can be found on their website.
