There’s a brand-new Italian restaurant opening in Cardiff city centre, and fresh pasta is taking centre stage.
We were invited for a sneak peek inside Cardiff’s newest Italian restaurant, which is preparing to open its doors on Monday 28 September in the former Zero Degrees building on Westgate Street.
The new restaurant is a family affair, run by husband and wife Martin and Debbie Stills alongside their two sons, James and Oliver.
After opening their first restaurant in Bath in 2024, the family are now bringing their concept to the Welsh capital, transforming one of Cardiff’s historic buildings into a contemporary pasta restaurant.
The family have given the Grade II-listed former garage a complete makeover, creating a bright, open-plan dining space with a contemporary Italian feel.
One of the restaurant’s main features is its open kitchen, where diners will be able to watch the team preparing fresh pasta at the front and meal in the main kitchen at the back and a huge bar area.
And there’s plenty for pasta lovers to get excited about.
The menu will feature a selection of freshly prepared pasta, from familiar favourites such as linguine and ravioli to bottoni and radiatori, paired with a variety of meat, fish and other sauces.
With fresh pasta at the heart of the concept, the restaurant aims to bring a taste of Italy to Cardiff in a relaxed, informal setting.
Anyone who remembers ZeroDegrees will recognise the location, but the family have completely re-imagined the space.
The former grade II listed garage’s historic character has been combined with a bright, modern interior, giving the building a new lease of life and a much larger space to move around. They also have plans to add a privateer bar and dining area on the mezzanine floor and seating in the upper balcony area at the top.
It’s also another welcome addition to Cardiff’s growing independent restaurant scene, with the family choosing the Welsh capital for their second location following their debut in Bath.
And there’s some good news for anyone who prefers a spontaneous meal out.
The restaurant will operate on a walk-in-only basis, meaning there’s no need to worry about making a reservation. Simply turn up, grab a table when one becomes available and enjoy some freshly prepared pasta.
