One of Wales’ most exciting new food festivals is back this weekend, bringing two days of open-fire cooking, BBQ, seasonal ingredients and feasting to the spectacular surroundings of Caldicot Castle.
MABON, created by the teams behind Hang Fire BBQ and Street Food Circus, returns for a weekend celebrating food, fire and folklore around the autumn equinox.

Taking place within the grounds of Caldicot Castle, the festival brings together some of the best BBQ and live-fire chefs from Wales, the South West and across the UK for two days centred around cooking over flames.
Rather than your typical food festival, MABON is all about the theatre of cooking outdoors. Expect huge grills, smoking BBQs and chefs cooking directly over fire, with seasonal ingredients and dishes created especially for the weekend.
The festival takes its inspiration from Mabon and the autumn equinox, traditionally a time associated with the harvest, changing seasons and gathering together to feast.
That theme runs throughout the weekend, combining food with fire, folklore and culinary storytelling, all within the walls and grounds of a medieval Welsh castle.
Among the chefs joining the line-up are Hang Fire BBQ, Matty’s BBQ Chop Shop, The Bab Haus, Hills, Big Nath’s BBQ and Feast Pembrokeshire, alongside plenty more BBQ and open-fire specialists.
It means visitors can spend the day working their way around some of the country’s best live-fire cooking, trying different dishes and watching the chefs at work.
With smoke rising above the castle, fires burning throughout the grounds and some serious BBQ talent behind the grills, it’s shaping up to be quite a way to welcome the beginning of autumn.
