Families are invited to brighten up their February half-term with Feel-Good February at Mermaid Quay – a colourful, creative, and completely free five-day programme of drop-in craft workshops, taking place from Tuesday 17 to Saturday 21 February, between 11am and 4pm each day.
Hosted in Unit 2 (opposite Coffi Co) of Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay, these fun-filled sessions offer children the chance to get crafty, embrace their imaginations and take home a feel-good creation – all set against a vibrant rainbow backdrop and balloon display to lift everyone’s spirits.
Each day will offer a different themed activity to keep young visitors engaged. On Monday, the fun begins with the creation of paper heart flowers. These heart-shaped blooms open up to become a larger flower with a hidden message inside – a thoughtful note to a parent, friend, or even to themselves, as a gentle reminder of how special they are.
Tuesday’s workshop will see children making animated butterfly models, complete with flapping wings, while on Wednesday, they’ll be designing and decorating their own rain sticks. Once filled with rice, these instruments produce the calming sound of falling rain and are a hit with children of all ages.
On Thursday, the creativity continues with squishy sensory ball making and modelling using colourful magic noodles – a wet-and-stick material that allows kids to let their imaginations run wild. Finally, on Friday, Mermaid Quay will host its ever-popular happiness jar workshop. Children will decorate a lidded Victorian-style jar, then fill it with colourful notes and drawings of things that make them happy, finished with a set of fairy lights to create a glowing keepsake they can return to on low days.
All workshops are drop-in and no booking is required. While capacity is limited due to the size of the venue, the activity space operates on a rolling basis from 11am to 4pm. Families are welcome to turn up at any time during these hours – if the space is at capacity, entry will be allowed as soon as room becomes available.
Mark Lemon, Centre Manager at Mermaid Quay, said:
“Our Feel-Good February workshops are designed to put smiles on faces and brighten up the half-term break. From crafting and creativity to moments of mindfulness, each activity is about having fun and feeling good – something we could all use a little more of during winter. We’re really looking forward to welcoming families to the Bay.”
Located in the heart of Cardiff Bay, Mermaid Quay is the perfect day-out destination this half term, with over 30 restaurants, cafés, shops and a cinema for families to enjoy before or after their crafting fun.
