The award winning global smash-hit finally hits the highway and pulls into the New Theatre this week. This fantasy epic set to the legendary music of Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf will absolutely blow Cardiff audiences away. Its packed full of hits, comedy and rock n’ roll.
Before the curtain even lifted, the excitement for Bat Out of Hell was already roaring through the streets—quite literally. In a fitting tribute to Meat Loaf’s legendary album, around 20 Harley-Davidson riders rumbled through town, parking up outside the theatre in a thunderous display of rock ‘n’ roll spirit. It was the perfect prelude to a night of high-octane musical theatre.
This show does not disappoint, with the set design being a true standout and something you notice sa soon as you go head to your seat. At times, the sheer amount of movement across multiple levels was exhausting to watch . From the stunning costumes and bold choreography to the grand, immersive sets and clever VHS camera work, every detail pulled the audience straight into Meat Loaf’s world. The visuals were so captivating and beautifully executed that it was almost overwhelming —in the best way possible!

On stage, Glenn Adamson took on the lead role with incredible energy and charisma. A Pembrokeshire native who honed his craft in Cardiff, Adamson’s performance was commanding and passionate, bringing both vocal power and raw emotion to the show’s larger-than-life anthems. His chemistry with the rest of the cast as a father figure, paired with stunning visuals and choreography, made for an electrifying experience.
Yes, Bat Out of Hell is a jukebox musical, but it’s built around one of the greatest rock albums of all time. While the fast-paced storyline can sometimes feel a little chaotic, the sheer spectacle of it all makes up for any narrative hiccups. With its explosive energy, jaw-dropping performances, and iconic soundtrack, this show will have you toe-tapping, neck-bobbing, and fully immersed in the magic of Meat Loaf.
It’s a true rock opera in every sense. Huge vocals, some sexy scenes, passionate dancing and some larger than life storytelling that wove together perfectly. Any fan of Meat Loaf, or really any fan of theatre and rock n’ roll, will adore this show and it’s a gnarly 5 stars and a must see.
