Cardiff’s skate and scooter scene is getting a serious upgrade this week as a brand new, purpose-built skatepark opens in Llanrumney on Friday. Located next to the Eastern Leisure Centre, the 1,000m² concrete park is the result of a collaborative effort between Cardiff Council, award-winning designers VDZ+A and Newline Skateparks, and passionate locals from CSC – Cardiff Skateboard Club.

Designed with input from the local skateboarding community right from the start, the park has been described as a “destination” facility, packed with a range of features to suit all ages and abilities. Expect a mix of flat banks, hips, steps, curbs, ledges, rails and a mini ramp – all built to high standards with durable concrete that’s quieter, faster-drying, and more weather-resilient than the timber-framed setup it replaces.
A spokesperson from CSC, Jim said:
“Having skated in Cardiff for over 40 years, we can confidently say the facilities have never been better than they are now. Thanks to Cardiff Council for including us in the process and we hope to see Llanrumney become the centre of a strong skate scene. We look forward to meeting lots of new skaters in the shop!”
The new park is expected to help boost interest in skateboarding and scooting across the city, providing a much-needed, inclusive space for beginners and seasoned skaters alike.
Cardiff Council has asked the public to wait until the official opening on Friday before skating the park, as final preparations are completed this week.
Whether you’re a seasoned shredder or just curious to give it a go, this new park is set to become a landmark in Cardiff’s growing skate scene.
