The FA Community Shield returns to Cardiff on Sunday 16 August, with Manchester City taking on Arsenal at the Principality Stadium in a 3pm kick-off.
With thousands of supporters expected to descend on the Welsh capital, road closures, transport changes and dedicated parking arrangements will be in place throughout the day.
Here’s everything you need to know before travelling.
Road Closures
Road closures around the Principality Stadium will begin from 10am and remain in place until approximately 8pm.
Some roads, including Scott Road and Park Street, will close earlier from 7am to allow the stadium to prepare for supporters arriving.
The full city centre closure includes:
- Kingsway (between North Road and Duke Street)
- Cowbridge Road East (between Cathedral Road and Westgate Street)
- Tudor Street
- Plantagenet Street
- Beauchamp Street
- Castle Street
- Duke Street
- High Street
- St Mary Street
- Caroline Street
- Wood Street
- Central Square
- Westgate Street
- Quay Street
- Guildhall Place
- Golate
- Park Street
- Havelock Street
- Scott Road
Penarth Road will also close around 30 minutes before the final whistle and remain closed for up to an hour afterwards to help manage rail passengers.
Civic Centre Access
Access around the Civic Centre will be controlled throughout the day, with entry limited to event parking, private car parks, loading and limited commuter parking.
Roads affected include:
- King Edward VII Avenue
- Museum Avenue
- City Hall Road
- College Road
- Gorsedd Gardens Road
Train Travel
Transport for Wales has added extra capacity where possible, but services are expected to be extremely busy.
After the match:
- Fans travelling to the Valleys and Vale of Glamorgan will be directed to Cardiff Queen Street Station.
- Passengers travelling to Ebbw Vale, Maesteg and all mainline destinations should use Cardiff Central Station.
Queuing will begin from 4.45pm, with an accessibility queue available at Cardiff Central.
Passengers are encouraged to buy tickets in advance and allow extra time for their journeys.
Cardiff Bus and Taxis
Cardiff Bus Interchange will close during the city centre road closures before reopening at 8pm.
The Saunders Road taxi rank will also be closed from 9.45am until 11.59pm.
Parking for Arsenal Supporters
Park & Ride
Supporters travelling to support Arsenal can use Cardiff City Stadium, Leckwith (CF11 8AZ).
The shuttle service will drop supporters at Fitzhamon Embankment.
Spaces can be pre-booked, with on-the-day parking available for £20, subject to availability.
Coach and minibus parking is available at Lloyd George Avenue (CF10 5EJ) for £30 per vehicle.
Parking for Manchester City Supporters
Manchester City supporters are encouraged to use the Pentwyn Park & Ride (CF23 8HH).
The shuttle service will drop fans on Kingsway, close to Cardiff Castle.
Pre-booking is recommended to guarantee a space.
Plan Ahead
The M4 and roads around Cardiff are expected to be exceptionally busy throughout the day, so supporters are advised to leave plenty of time for their journey.
Anyone attending should also check the Principality Stadium’s bag policy before travelling, as large bags will not be permitted inside the stadium.
