A well-known northern fish and chip brand is making its way to Cardiff, as Mother Hubbard’s prepares to open its first Welsh site on City Road.
The new shop, located at 88 City Road, is set to launch on Saturday 9th May, and they are kicking things off in a big way with 50% off all food across opening weekend.
Mother Hubbard’s has built a strong reputation across the UK, particularly in Yorkshire where most of its sites are based, the brand now has 47 stores open in the UK and this is the first one in Wales. Known for generous portions and a traditional approach to fish and chips, the brand has picked up a loyal following, helped in part by glowing reviews from popular TikTok food creators like Food Reviews Club and Big John.

On the menu, you can expect all the chip shop classics done properly, including fish and chips made with Icelandic haddock, alongside a more modern twist with their salt and pepper range, featuring wings, fish bites and prawns.
There are also daily lunch deals running between midday and 4pm, making it an easy option for a quick bite during the day.
The Cardiff opening marks another step in the brand’s expansion, with new locations planned across the UK and beyond, including London, Birmingham, Manchester and even Dubai.
Now, with its first Welsh shop landing on one of Cardiff’s busiest food streets, Mother Hubbard’s looks set to bring a bit of northern chip shop culture to the city.
If the queues match the hype seen elsewhere, opening weekend could be a busy one.
