Barker Tavern Set To Open In Castle Arcade

The family behind Cardiff’s much-loved Gin & Juice, Coffee Barker, and Rum & Fizz are expanding once again — this time with a brand-new concept that promises to bring timeless sophistication to the city’s historic Castle Arcade next to Maison Du Boeuf 10-16 Castle Arcade

Barker Tavern, the latest venture from husband-and-wife team Stephen and Charlotte Barker, will be an upscale, high-end tavern serving Guinness, fresh oysters, cocktails, whisky, and draught beers — combining the charm of a traditional pub with the craftsmanship and elegance their venues are known for.

Rooted in the Barker family’s long history within Castle Arcade, the opening marks yet another chapter in a remarkable Cardiff success story. The Barkers have been trading in the arcade since 1982, originally as a fashion retailer before pivoting to hospitality over a decade ago with the launch of Coffee Barker, followed by the stylish Barker Tea Rooms, and later, their acclaimed bars Gin & Juice and Rum & Fizz.

Described as a “classic boozer, elevated”, Barker Tavern will focus on craft-first bartending, premium spirits, and perfect pints, delivered with the kind of hospitality and attention to detail that have become a hallmark of the Barker brand. Guests can expect a dedicated Guinness saloon, fresh oysters served alongside cocktails, and a warm, Welsh-inspired atmosphere, complete with live music and an emphasis on old-school pub etiquette.

No details when Barker Tavern is set to open, but it will be joining the family’s ever-growing collection of stylish, independent venues and cementing Castle Arcade’s reputation as one of the city’s most vibrant hospitality destinations.
