Vitality Blast Returns to Cardiff: A Big Summer of Cricket at Sophia Gardens

Cricket fans, get ready—the Vitality Blast is back at Sophia Gardens this summer, promising thrilling matches, double-headers, and more action than ever before. Glamorgan Cricket will once again host seven home games as the T20 Blast enters its 22nd season, with a fresh twist for 2025.

The excitement kicks off on Sunday 1 June, with Glamorgan Men’s team opening their campaign against Middlesex at Merchant Taylors’ School. Back in Cardiff, the high-energy T20 format will take over Sophia Gardens starting Tuesday 3 June, when Glamorgan face Surrey in the first home clash of the season.

In a major development for the women’s game, 2025 will also see the introduction of two Vitality Blast Women’s competitions. The top-tier tournament will feature eight elite counties in Tier One, while Glamorgan Women will compete in Tier Two—Vitality Blast Women’s League Two—before moving up to Tier One in 2027. Both Glamorgan’s men’s and women’s teams will play on the same day during select doubleheader fixtures at Sophia Gardens, bringing even more cricket action to the capital.

Among the standout home dates:

  • Tuesday 3 June: Glamorgan v Surrey
  • Friday 6 June: Glamorgan v Essex
  • Saturday 14th June: Glamorgan v Sussex Sharks
  • Friday 20th June: Glamorgan v Somerset
  • Sunday 6th July: Glamorgan v Kent Spitfires
  • Sunday 13 July: Glamorgan v Gloucestershire (Double Header with Glamorgan Women’s team)
  • Friday 18 July: Glamorgan v Middlesex (Double Header with Glamorgan Women’s team playing Kent)

Sophia Gardens will be buzzing all summer long as Glamorgan aim to build on last year’s form and make a strong run in the South Group. Mark Wallace, Glamorgan’s Director of Cricket, said:
“Vitality Blast is always a competition you look for when the fixtures come out and after some exciting games at Sophia Gardens last year, we’re looking forward to getting out there and playing well in the competition this season.”
