The Hundred returns to Cardiff for its fifth year on 9 August, with the double-header visit of London Spirit.
The wait is nearly over, The Hundred is back in Cardiff this summer, and it all kicks off on Saturday 9th August at Sophia Gardens, when Welsh Fire take on London Spirit in what promises to be a blockbuster opening double-header.
This isn’t just cricket — it’s fast, fun and full-throttle, with both the men’s and women’s teams playing back-to-back in front of thousands of fans. With tickets already flying out, the buzz is building fast.
What is The Hundred?
If you’re new to it, The Hundred is cricket with a twist. Each team has just 100 balls to bat or bowl, making games shorter, sharper and packed with action. Designed to attract new audiences to the sport, it blends world-class cricket with live music, street food, and a summer festival vibe, all in under three hours.
A Huge Year for Welsh Fire
The Welsh Fire women’s team made history in 2024, reaching their first-ever Hundred final. After finishing top of the table, to book their spot at Lord’s, where they narrowly lost to London Spirit in one of the most competitive finals the tournament has seen — by just four wickets with two balls remaining. The rematch on 9th August promises fireworks.
The men’s team also had a strong season, finishing fourth , a massive improvement on previous years when they had sat bottom of the table. With both sides now genuine contenders, Cardiff is fast becoming a fortress for Fire.
Australian superstar Steve Smith has become Welsh Fire’s first Direct Signing in The Hundred, signing up on Deadline Day as the men’s and women’s teams begin to form their squad.
Smith joins the likes of Tom Kohler-Cadmore, captain Tom Abell and Jonny Bairstow in Mike Hussey’s men’s squad, while the women’s team have secured the return of overseas trio Hayley Matthews, Jess Jonassen and Shabnim Ismail, as well as captain Tammy Beaumont.
