Review : The Nutcracker  – The Alternative Cabaret

The Nutcracker has taken a wild turn in the Wales Millennium Center, by introducing itself through the theme of cabaret. From hights to humour and trapeze to tingles, this show was of all things “A celebration of humanity” with a cast of different shapes, sizes and races they dominated the stage. The music and its composure helped the cast as they portrayed their characters, from high vocals to suspenseful notes the music demonstrated in this performance was creative, modern and diverse.

A big and vital part of The Cabaret Nutcracker was the interactivity with the audience. Matthew Bournes tribute to Nutcracker through the eyes of cabaret was given five stars as a “A witty, wonderful, Rip-roaring spectacular” by the daily telegraph. Anthony wards the genius behind the Nutcrackers crazy costumes and sets complemented Bournes emotional choreography to create a fresh and charmingly irreverent interpretation of the classic.

Come to the Wales Millenium centre from the 3rd – 31st of December and enjoy everything that the Nutcracker cabaret has to offer. As I was sat down enjoying the show, from start to finish I could not take my eyes off the stage. With a collaboration of both classical and house music the production team achieved a modern touch to the romantic, ballet classic.

However, there was very little story line, the performance still touched many people in the audience by relatable and humours dialect throughout the show, amazing entertainment and heart and creative soul seasoning the performance. This show is a prime example of art and everything that comes with it. The production team broke the barrier between imagination and reality, I would be pleased to watch this performance again, as it is a true celebration of humanity
