One of Cardiff’s most beautiful shopping arcades is getting its very own Christmas lights switch-on this November, complete with festive carols, late-night shopping and a programme of live entertainment.
One thing Cardiff has been missing in recent years is an official city centre Christmas lights switch-on. But this year, one of the city’s best-loved Victorian arcades is bringing back a little of that festive tradition.
For many shoppers, one of the highlights of Christmas in Cardiff is wandering through the city’s historic arcades, particularly Morgan Arcade, where the beautiful decorations and twinkling lights create one of the prettiest festive scenes in the capital.
And this year, rather than simply appearing overnight, the lights will be getting their own special switch-on celebration.
Christmas Lights, Carols and Late-Night Shopping
On Wednesday 19 November, Morgan Arcade will host an evening of festive celebrations, with Christmas carols starting at 6.30pm before the official lights switch-on at 7pm.
The shops throughout Morgan Quarter will also stay open until 9pm, giving visitors the chance to enjoy some Christmas shopping beneath the newly illuminated decorations.
With its beautiful Victorian architecture, cobbled walkways and independent shops, Morgan Arcade is already one of Cardiff’s most charming shopping destinations, and it looks even better dressed up for Christmas.
The event promises a lovely opportunity to enjoy the festive atmosphere, browse for presents and celebrate the start of the Christmas season.
Live Jazz, Historic Tours and Christmas Workshops
The celebrations won’t stop with the lights switch-on.
Morgan Quarter has also announced a programme of festive activities taking place on 5 and 12 December, giving shoppers even more reasons to visit the historic arcades.
Visitors can spend the afternoon enjoying live jazz performances or join a guided tour to discover the fascinating history of Morgan Quarter and its Victorian shopping arcades.
For anyone who fancies getting creative, Arcade Wool Shop will also be hosting special Christmas crochet workshops on both dates, where visitors can make their very own festive bauble to hang on the tree.
It’s a chance to slow down, enjoy the surroundings and experience something a little different from the usual Christmas shopping rush.
