Marie Curie Daffodil Ball returns to Cardiff with £30,000 fundraising ambition

A night of hope, a lifetime of gratitude

Welsh television presenter and entertainment executive Liz Fuller to host the 2027 charity ball as businesses and supporters across Wales are invited to help make a difference to families facing terminal illness.

When someone you love is approaching the end of their life, it is often the smallest acts of kindness that stay with you forever. A reassuring voice in the middle of the night, a hand to hold, or simply knowing that someone is there when you need them most.

For thousands of families, these moments of compassion, dignity and care are what Marie Curie helps make possible.

Now, following the success of its inaugural event, the Marie Curie Cymru Daffodil Ball will return to The Parkgate Hotel in Cardiff on Thursday 18 March 2027, bringing together businesses, supporters and friends of the charity for an evening dedicated to making those moments possible for more families.

With an ambitious fundraising target of £30,000, organisers are calling on the Welsh business community to come together through corporate sponsorship, table bookings and donations, helping to support Marie Curie’s vital work across Wales.

At the heart of the evening is a powerful message: nobody should have to face the end of life without the care, comfort and compassion they deserve.

Returning to her home country to host the Ball is Swansea-born television presenter, producer and entertainment executive Liz Fuller, whose career has taken her from British television to Hollywood.

For Liz, however, this is far more than another presenting engagement. Having experienced first-hand the extraordinary care Marie Curie provided to her mother during her final days; she understands the profound difference its nurses and support teams can make to families facing the loss of someone they love.

Liz said: “Marie Curie was there for my mother when we needed them most. The kindness, dignity and extraordinary care they gave her in her final days was nothing short of miraculous. I will never forget what they did for her, and I will forever be grateful. It is a genuine honour to host the Daffodil Ball and help raise funds for a charity that means so much to me personally.”

Now dividing her time between Los Angeles and Wales, Liz is Founder and CEO of ST8RM Management & Production, representing actors and developing film and television projects across the UK and United States.

Despite her international career, her connection to Wales remains strong, as does her commitment to supporting charitable causes that make a genuine difference.

Why every contribution matters

Behind the celebration is an urgent and increasingly important cause. Research funded by Marie Curie has highlighted that almost one in three people in the UK are dying without the end-of-life care and support they need. Behind that statistic are individuals and families facing some of life’s most difficult moments, often without the specialist care, reassurance and practical support that could make an enormous difference.

Just £207 could help fund nine hours of overnight nursing care in someone’s own home, giving families precious support and reassurance when they need it most.

The cost of providing a full day of hospice care can also run to almost £10,000, demonstrating just how important fundraising and charitable support remain.

For the volunteer organising committee behind the Daffodil Ball, the ambition is not simply to create another memorable evening, but to help turn generosity into meaningful care for people across Wales.

The committee, made up of volunteers from businesses across South Wales, is determined to build on the success of the first Ball and make the 2027 event an even greater celebration of community, compassion and collective generosity.

Claire Phillips, Head of Regional Fundraising at Marie Curie Cymru, said: “The Daffodil Ball is a celebration of kindness. Every pound raised helps us provide expert care and comfort to people across Wales when they need it most. We are deeply grateful to everyone who joins us, donates, or supports the event in any way.”

An evening that brings Wales together

The black-tie event will feature a sparkling wine reception, three-course dinner, live entertainment from the Hat & Fiddle Band, dancing, a silent auction and a prize draw.

The evening’s silent auction will be hosted by The Events Room, giving guests the opportunity to bid on a selection of exclusive experiences and prizes generously donated by businesses and supporters, with proceeds helping to support Marie Curie’s vital work across Wales.

AIS Utilities has been named as headline sponsor, providing valuable support to help bring the event to life.

With preparations gathering momentum, organisers are inviting businesses of all sizes to play their part, whether by hosting a table, becoming a corporate sponsor, donating a silent auction prize or supporting the event in another way.

For the Welsh business community, the Ball presents an opportunity to entertain colleagues, clients and business partners while contributing to a cause that touches the lives of people in communities throughout Wales.

Individual tickets are priced at £100, with tables of ten available for £900.

The organisers hope that the generosity of those attending, sponsoring and supporting the evening will help them reach their £30,000 fundraising ambition, providing vital support for Marie Curie’s work.

Because behind every fundraising target is something that cannot be measured in pounds and pence: more precious time together, greater peace of mind and the comfort of knowing that nobody must face the hardest moments alone.
