One of the biggest astronomical events of the year is coming to the skies above South Wales, and one Cardiff farm is inviting visitors to experience it from the middle of a sea of sunflowers.
On Wednesday 12 August, Clearwell Farm will host a special Sunflower & Eclipse Evening, combining sunflower picking, a maize maze, live entertainment and incredible views of a partial solar eclipse.
While the UK sits just outside the path of totality, Cardiff will still enjoy an impressive display, with around 90% of the Sun expected to be covered by the Moon.
The partial eclipse begins at 6.17pm, reaches its maximum at 7.13pm, before ending at 8.07pm.
Perched on the outskirts of Cardiff with panoramic views across the surrounding countryside, Clearwell Farm offers one of the city’s best locations to watch the eclipse unfold, with uninterrupted views of the western horizon as the Sun slowly disappears behind the Moon.
Visitors can arrive from 5pm, giving them plenty of time to wander through the farm’s popular maize maze, pick their own sunflowers and soak up the atmosphere before the main event begins.
The evening will also feature live music and a DJ, creating a relaxed festival atmosphere as the sun begins to set.
Food and drink will be available throughout the evening, including freshly made pizzas, farm burgers and hot dogs, alongside a cocktail bar and a cider bar serving local favourites.
For anyone planning to watch the eclipse, special viewing glasses will be available to purchase on site, ensuring visitors can enjoy the event safely.
Dogs are also welcome, making it a great evening out for families, couples and four-legged friends alike.
