Spitfire Barbecue Set To Open In Cardiff City Centre

One of Bristol’s most talked-about restaurants is crossing the bridge.

Spitfire Barbecue is set to open its first Welsh site right in the heart of the capital at 39–41 St Mary Street on he site of the old Meating place, bringing with it a fiery passion for authentic, smoky flavours  from South Africa crossed with Americana.

Known for its dedication to real barbecue, Spitfire is all about letting the natural flavour of the meat shine. Every cut is carefully rubbed and glazed rather than drenched in sauce, before being cooked caveman-style directly over hot coals or smoked low and slow in authentic Texan smokers. The result? Bold, rich, and deeply satisfying flavours in every bite.

The menu at Spitfire is a celebration of barbecue culture from across the globe. Expect South African Braai grilled over roaring wood fires, American-style slow-smoked classics, and a host of other smoky specialities, all served in their signature mess tins. Think ribs that fall off the bone, brisket with melt-in-the-mouth texture, and flame-seared steaks packed with flavour.

Spitfire has built a strong reputation in Bristol for its no-nonsense approach to barbecue, and the new Cardiff restaurant promises to bring the same energy to the city centre. Whether you’re a die-hard meat lover, a fan of proper low-and-slow cooking, or simply someone who enjoys food with fire and soul, this is an opening we cannot wait to open.

Owner Billy Steyn said – “I used to live in Newport and have always travelled to Cardiff for food and rugby, so if I was ever going to open another place it had to be here. I can’t wait for the people of Wales and Cardiff to try our food – we’ve got a huge range of cooking styles, from South African to American and Asian flavour collaborations.”

They are set to open on the 28th September but make sure you follow the spitfirebbqcardiff/ Instagram account or visit the website – www.spitfirebarbecue.com to be the first to hear about t the local developments.
