Tucked away in a pub car park just a stone’s throw from the sea, one of South Wales’ most beloved seafood vendors is back for summer—and it’s making serious waves.
Rock & Scallop, the small-but-mighty seafood shack set up in the car park of the Three Golden Cups pub in Southerndown, has reopened for its second season, serving up outrageously good seafood platters to locals, beachgoers, and those making the pilgrimage from miles around.
What looks like a humble wooden hut in a coastal pub car park is, in fact, home to some of the best seafood you’ll eat this summer.
Behind the pass is chef Matt, whose pedigree speaks for itself. Having cut his teeth in some of Cardiff’s top kitchens—Woods Brasserie, Custom House and The Newbridge on Usk—and spending time at the Michelin-starred Stockcross Vineyard in Newbury, Matt brings serious culinary flair to this seaside pop-up. Now, alongside his son Corey, the duo are bringing fresh fish and knockout flavour to the coast with a casual, no-fuss setup that’s all about quality.
And the menu? It’s a seafood lover’s dream.
The standout is the VIP Surf & Turf: a juicy rump steak paired with king prawns, golden chips, and topped with their signature VIP sauce—a rich, buttery concoction of lobster and crab that takes the dish to a whole new level.
Then there’s the Seafood Mixed Grill, packed with half a lobster, XXXL prawns, Cornish scallops and more, all grilled to perfection. Perfect for sharing (if you’re feeling generous), the Seafood Platter is a beachside feast featuring a bounty of the freshest catch.
There’s no bookings system here. Just turn up, place your order at the hut, and wait for your number to be called. You can grab a seat in the car park, or take your box down to the sand and enjoy with a sea breeze and sunset view.
