Cardiff has unveiled a stunning new tribute to one of its most loved footballing figures, as the Sol Bamba Mural is now complete. The community-led project celebrates the legacy of Cardiff City FC icon Sol Bamba – a player whose courage, leadership, and spirit off the pitch inspired countless fans in the city and beyond.

The idea for the mural was initiated by Ibby Abdi (IBY / Creative Circle Cardiff CIC), who envisioned a lasting tribute that would bring together football culture, art, and community pride. Working closely with Cardiff City FC, Sol’s family, and local young people, the project has grown into much more than just an artwork. It represents resilience, unity, and the values Sol embodied.
The mural, painted by jody__Artist and a number of talented artists , was shaped by youth workshops, ensuring the voices of Cardiff’s community were woven into the design.
Support came from IBYWORLD, Arts Council of Wales, Cardiff City FC Foundation, Creative Circle Cardiff CIC, and other local partners. It’s not the first collaboration between IBYWORLD and the club – in 2023 they teamed up with Cardiff City FC and New Balance on a special edition shirt, which sold out and gained international attention.
Now, the completed mural stands as a permanent landmark in Cardiff: a striking celebration of Sol Bamba’s legacy both on and off the pitch, and a powerful reminder of the values that continue to inspire the Bluebirds’ faithful.
