One of Wales’ most loved coastal spots has been given national recognition, with Rhossili Bay named the 8th most beautiful walk in Britain for 2026.
The ranking comes from outdoor experts at Millets, who analysed Tripadvisor reviews to see how often UK walking routes were described as “beautiful”, “pretty” and “picturesque”. Rhossili Bay clocked up an impressive 698 beauty-related mentions, placing it firmly in the UK’s top ten and making it the highest-ranked walk in Wales.
For anyone who has stood at the top of the headland and looked out over the sweeping curve of sand, it will come as no surprise.
Located on the Gower Peninsula, Rhossili Bay is famous for its wide open beach, dramatic cliffs and big skies. On a clear day, walkers can see all the way out to Worm’s Head, with waves rolling in below and seabirds circling overhead. It is the kind of place that feels wild and peaceful at the same time, even on busier days.
What makes Rhossili special is how accessible it is. You do not need to be an experienced hiker to enjoy it. The main walking routes are well worn and manageable, whether you are heading down towards the beach, walking the clifftops, or taking in the views from above. That mix of ease and drama is part of its appeal.
Being named alongside places like Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, the Giant’s Causeway and the Fairy Pools on Skye is a big moment for Wales. Arthur’s Seat took the top spot overall, while Rhossili sat proudly at number eight, ahead of well-known locations like Dovedale in the Peak District and the Needles on the Isle of Wight.
For locals, Rhossili Bay has always been more than just a scenic walk. It is a place for family strolls, sunset walks, windswept winter wanderings and long summer days that stretch into evening. For visitors, it often becomes the highlight of a trip to south Wales.
With spring approaching and longer evenings on the way, this recognition feels well timed. As Millets’ outdoor expert Natalie Wolfenden points out, it is the perfect season to get out walking, enjoy lighter evenings and take in the scenery. A bit of preparation goes a long way, especially on the coast, where weather can change quickly.
Rhossili Bay has long been one of Wales’ most photographed and talked-about landscapes. Now, with its place confirmed among Britain’s most beautiful walks, it feels like the rest of the UK is finally catching up.
If you needed an excuse to head back to the Gower, this might just be it.
