Red Bull are bringing a one-one dance competition to the UK in two qualifying locations and Cardiff university will play host to the second on the 22nd June 2019
The international dance competition Red Bull Dance Your Style is bringing its search for the best street dancers to the UK in an exciting format where the crowd hold the ultimate power over who wins. Hosting over 65 events in more than 30 countries, the competition will hold two regional qualifiers in Newcastle and Cardiff, ahead of a national final in London. The winner will go on to represent the UK at the World Finals in Paris in October.
Celebrating street dance and its culture, the competition aims to bring people together for an all-style solo battle open to dancers from any street discipline, including breaking, popping, hip-hop, locking and house. Most importantly, contestants will have to be ready to drop down and perform their best moves as the DJs spin randomly selected genres from funk to pop, rap to garage and old school to current hits, testing everyone’s ability to adapt their individual styles.
Unlike most street dance competitions being judged by a panel, Red Bull Dance Your Style leaves the judging in the hands of the crowd. This exhilarating concept gives contestants the freedom to express as much personality and character as possible, all to try and win over the audience.
The competition itself will be a mixed, all-style solo (one-on-one) battle, in which dancers from any street style discipline can enter. This open entry, all-styles format, means that each battle will be an exchange of the diverse and different number of styles that exist in street dance. Audiences will get to see breaking, hip-hop, popping, house, locking and other street dance styles. The dancers will go head-to-head against one another, just like at parties back in the day.
Ahead of the UK Final on 14thJuly in London, two regional qualifiers will take place on the following dates and at the following locations. Four winners from each event will join 8 invited wildcards in London:
