Litter-Picking Heroes Unite Across Wales for Spring Clean Cymru 2025

Still Time to #LoveWhereYouLive and Join Thousands of Volunteers!

Litter-picking heroes have been out in force across Wales, with over 6,500 people taking part in 250 events so far as part of Keep Wales Tidy’s Spring Clean Cymru 2025—and there’s still time to get involved!

The annual campaign, which runs until Sunday 6 April, has seen communities, schools, businesses, and individualscome together to clean up streets, parks, beaches, and beauty spots. But the work isn’t over yet!

How to Get Involved

Whether it’s a solo clean-up or a group effort, participants can register their own event or join an organised litter-pick via the Keep Wales Tidy website. There’s even litter-picking equipment available to borrow, making it easier than ever to get stuck in and make a difference.

Spring Clean Cymru kicked off in spectacular fashion, with 1,327 volunteers breaking the Guinness World Record for Most Participants in a River Clean-up (at Multiple Locations) on Friday 21 March.

Led by environmentalist Kate Strong and freshwater expert Dr Numair Masud, the clean-up of the River Taff saw hundreds of bags of litter collected at locations across Merthyr Tydfil, Pontypridd, Cardiff’s Taff Embankment, and Cardiff Bay.

Wales’ Deputy First Minister for Climate Change, Huw Irranca-Davies, praised the campaign, saying:

“Well done to all the volunteers who have taken part in Spring Clean Cymru so far and llongyfarchiadau (congratulations) to those who helped set a new World Record in the process! You’re all helping to create a cleaner, greener Wales.

“And it’s not just about these two weeks—thanks to Welsh Government funding, there are over 240 Keep Wales Tidy hubs where people can borrow litter-picking equipment all year round to help protect our environment and wildlife.”

Keep Wales Tidy Chief Executive Owen Derbyshire also highlighted the incredible efforts of volunteers:

“Our message this year is #LoveWhereYouLive, and we see that in everyone who has joined Spring Clean Cymru. Every single piece of litter collected helps create a cleaner, greener Wales.

“There’s still more than a week left to get involved! If you haven’t already, head to our website to register an event or join a local clean-up. Even if it’s your first time, all the information you need is there.”
