A new independent restaurant is set to breathe fresh life into the former Deck in Penarth Marina, as Goose on the Loose prepares to open this month. With an experienced team at the helm and a focus on quality, locally sourced food, the new venue is expected to become a go-to destination for relaxed dining by the water.
The brain child behind the new venture on the waterfront is General Manager Michael O’Neil, whose impressive background spans award-winning venues, including the five-star Opus One at the Radisson Edwardian Manchester and Michelin-starred Marco Pierre White at Selfridges, Oxford Street. Closer to home, his experience includes Green Door Steakhouse in Kensington and the well-known Tutton’s Brasserie in Covent Garden. For the past decade, O’Neil has managed Hudson’s House in Bloomsbury, one of London’s busiest late-night hotspots. Now, he’s bringing his expertise to Penarth, aiming to create a welcoming yet high-quality dining experience.

In the kitchen, Executive Chef Daniel McGarey and Head Chef Craig Manley are set to deliver a menu centred on fresh, wholesome ingredients. While details are still under wraps, the offering is expected to showcase quality meats, locally caught fish from Ashtons, and comforting classics such as mussels and mac and cheese. The venue will serve breakfast, lunch, brunch, and dinner seven days a week, with a drinks list featuring classic cocktails, in-house brewed beers, and an eclectic selection of wines.
With its prime waterfront location, Goose on the Loose aims to be more than just a restaurant—it’s set to become a vibrant social hub. Plans for live music on the jetty, summer barbecues, and sunset alfresco dining suggest it will make the most of its scenic setting, offering a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
Goose on the Loose promises five-star service without the pretension—or the hefty price tag. With a focus on quality, accessibility, and a touch of playful charm, it looks set to be a welcome addition to Penarth’s dining scene.
