Free and Discounted Drinks for Designated Drivers Are Back This Christmas

There are 32 Cardiff Venues Taking Part

Christmas party season is here, which usually means busy pubs, big nights out and plenty of festive drinks. But for the people who decide to stay sober and take on the job of designated driver, South Wales Police are once again giving them a little thank you.

More than one hundred pubs and bars across south Wales are taking part in this year’s Des Scheme, now back for its fourth year. The idea is simple. Anyone acting as a designated driver can let bar staff know, receive a wristband and enjoy free or discounted draught soft drinks or squash throughout their visit.

The scheme runs all through December and into early January, helping promote safer roads and encouraging responsible drinking at one of the busiest times of the year. All participating venues cover the cost of the drinks themselves, showing real support for the message behind the initiative.

This year, 120 venues are involved, including 32 in Cardiff. Here is the full list of places in the capital where designated drivers can claim their free or discounted soft drinks.
