Take part in the Santa Dash around Cardiff Bay

Officially the biggest festive run in Wales is back. Under current restrictions the Dash is set to be as big as ever before. Sign up for the lifesaving 5k dash and raise some money for a superb cause before the holidays. Bring the little ones too for the Elf Dash!

 

Sip on Afternoon Tea with Santa and his Friends

Santa’s going to be a busy boy this year, darting between St David’s Centre and the Bay but he’ll be in The Lo Lounge, nevertheless, fuelling up on afternoon tea to get ready for the big day. Meet Santa  and friends

Catch the Panto at the New Theatre

This years Panto at the New Theatre is a star-studded cast performing the Christmas classic, Aladdin. Paul Chuckle, Gareth Thomas, Stephanie Webber and the one and only Gareth Gates to name a few! Packed full of the traditional pantomime ingredients audiences have come to know and love. Nothing quite beats a Panto and after missing the show last year, we are eager to sink our teeth into this one.

 

Pick your own Christmas Tree at Clearwell Farm

Come and get your tree at a farm owned by the Phillips family for over a century, with their ancestors dating back to the 1600’s. It doesn’t get more locally grown than that! Offering trees and wreaths all grown here in South Wales, you can decorate your house in style. Head down to Clearwell Farm where you can pick your own tree, the perfect start to your Christmas.

Sip a drink at the new Ice Bar

Brand new for 2021 is Cardiff Winter Wonderland’s Ice Bar. At a cool -10°C the Ice Bar has ice sculptures of polar bears and penguins.

Tickets include overcoat hire, as well as a shot glass made entirely of ice with a choice of colourful AU Vodka or Jägermeister shot, or a non-alcoholic option.

Beauty and the Beast at the WMC

Disney’s beloved ‘tale as old as time’ is perfect fun for the whole family.

Spectacularly reimagined using the latest theatrical innovations, this beloved ‘tale as old as time’ will be brought to life on stage like never before at the Wales Millennium Centre from the 9th December.

The Wizard Of Oz, the largest panto will be in Cardiff this festive season. Starring The One Show celeb Matt Baker, the performance turns the classic tale of Dorothy and the Yellow Brick Road into a grand spectacular .

We may have already mentioned the market as a perfect place to buy your gifts, but don’t forget there is also a whole host of street food and drink available. Grab a Bratwurst and some sliced potatoes drowning in cheese. Wash it all down with a few pints from the Alpine bars. Doesn’t that sound like something worth braving the cold for? We think so.

Finally, a Christmas event that caters to the naughty list. Putting the ‘ass’ back into Christm-ass, Poly Amorous and friends do Dickens in Cardiff’s own chaotic anti-panto at the Wales Millennium Centre. Gather round for a bizarre retelling of Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol which is more tinsel covered fever dream than cathartic journey for dear of Scrooge. Featuring a whole host of South Wales artists, you won’t want to miss early Christmas present that’s a lot more naughty than nice.

Catch a Christmas Film at The Deck

One to bring your biggest of woolly coats to, The Deck are rolling out a movie marathon along with Santa’s little helpers Lost Land Cinema. Step out onto the Jetty bar where you can snuggle up under a blanket with a mug of mulled wine and watch some of the festive classics. The Grinch, Gremlins and Romeo & Juliet will all be in attendance, with the marathon rounding off with the definitive greatest Christmas film of all time… Die Hard (no debating here we all know it is).

Celebrate The Festival of Light in Bute Park

Spend a magical evening watching the dazzling light displays, interactive installations, flickering fires, laser shows, fairy forests and mirror balls as you wander through the trees into another realm. Its your chance to see the park like you never have before and step into the light, all while sipping on mulled wine (of course, I don’t think there will be a single event on this list that won’t provide a decent mug of mulled wine) and munching on street food.

The Corporation Yard in Canton has a new neighbour this year… the Corporation Market. Filled with some new and familiar faces, the market has quickly become a new hive of local independent businesses in the city. Support local and get your hands on some unique craft items like a starters guide to cross stitching kit, or support none for profit mental health awareness clothing brands, and so so much more. You can even get your haircut in the market while you do your shopping. Result!
