Celebrate 60 years of Doctor Who with Adventures in Water and Light in Cardiff

BBC Wales is marking 60 years of Doctor Who with a dazzling showcase called “Adventures in Water and Light” in Cardiff Bay. As a special treat for fans of the beloved series, this after-dark water-based projection promises to transport audiences through six decades of Doctor Who magic. Crafted with a script by the former Doctor Who script editor, Gary Russell, and featuring the fresh take on Murray Gold’s iconic theme, this audio-visual spectacle is set to kick off on Doctor Who Day.

Launching on Thursday, November 23rd, and running until Saturday, November 25th, at Roath Basin in Cardiff Bay, this water-based projection has a special connection to the series’ history. Showings will take place every half hour from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm on these days, with each session lasting around 5 minutes. The grand switch-on is scheduled for 5:30 pm on Thursday, November 23rd.

In addition to the Cardiff Bay projection, the 60th-anniversary celebrations extend to the Senedd building. From November 23rd to December 2nd, visitors to Cardiff can catch a glimpse of the iconic TARDIS and encounter one of the Doctor’s infamous foes, a Dalek.

LCI Productions is the creative force behind the water projection, with Cardiff Council and Associated British Ports granting permission to use Roath Basin. Coleridge Cymru played a crucial role in facilitating this exciting project.
