Catfish and the Bottlemen are back with a bang!

Catfish and the Bottlemen last performed a sell-out gig at Cardiff Castle in 2018 and they will now return to the iconic venue on Friday July 19.

Beginning a monumental new chapter, multi-Platinum-selling, BRIT Award-winning, arena-filling giants Catfish and the Bottlemen return today with their first new music in five years, and announce their first headline shows since 2021, including a date in the Welsh capital.

Welsh indie rock band Catfish and the Bottlemen have announced a new tour with a date at Cardiff Castle this summer. The band have been teasing fans with news of a new tour on social media, posting cryptic messages and photos of their rehearsals. The band haven’t played with each other since 2021, when they headlined the Reading and Leeds festivals.

The announcement coincides with the release of anthemic, stadium-ready new single ‘Showtime’ via Island Records. Frontman, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Van McCann recorded the song in Los Angeles with multi-GRAMMY winning producer Dave Sardy (Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, Rolling Stones). Reflecting the sun-kissed optimism of LA and marking a bold evolution in Van’s songwriting, it is the first track to be released from Catfish and the Bottlemen’s soon to be announced fourth studio album.

Revered for their incendiary live performances, the release of ‘Showtime’ is matched by the news of two massive open-air headline shows. Announced exactly 900 days since the band last played in front of a live crowd, as well as performing at TK Maxx Presents Depot Live at Cardiff Castle, they will also head to Edinburgh Summer Sessions on August 24. The dates land among their must-see return to headline the Reading and Leeds Festival main stage.

Catfish and the Bottlemen’s arena-filling sonic outlook has cemented their place among Britain’s most successful bands of the 21st Century. Signing to Island Records in 2014 after years of relentless touring, their debut LP The Balcony surged into the UK Top 10 and helped them scoop British Breakthrough Act at the BRITs before scoring their landmark #1 album with The Ride. Since then, they’ve amassed more than one billion streams, two million album sales and are closing in on 10 million single sales. On stage Van McCann possesses unique magnetic energy and is considered one of modern rock’s great live frontmen. In the five years since releasing their debut album, they’d sold more than half a million tickets, and have played to more than 2 million people.

Van McCann is back where he’s meant to be: headlining festivals, finishing a brand new album, and beginning a dynamic, exciting new era for Catfish and the Bottlemen.

The headlining show for TK Maxx Presents Depot Live at Cardiff Castle is presented by promoters DEPOT Live and Cuffe and Taylor.

Nick Saunders from DEPOT Live said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Catfish and the Bottlemen back to Cardiff Castle, marking a much-anticipated return after five years away from the capital.”

Catfish and the Bottlemen are the latest headliners revealed for what promises to be a stunning summer at Cardiff Castle. They join indie music legends Manic Street Preachers and Suede who will play two consecutive sold-out co-headline shows, a double-headlining show from US alt rockers The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer, British rock band IDLES and headlining shows from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying BirdsAvril LavignePaul HeatonJLS, Tom Grennan, Nothing But Thieves, Madness, Rick Astley, Crowded House and The National with more to be announced.
