Cardiff is about to get a taste of Tanzania with the opening of ONJA, the city’s first-ever Tanzanian restaurant. Founded by self-confessed foodie and mum of two, Justina John, ONJA brings the rich flavours of Tanzanian street food and authentic dishes to the heart of South Wales.

Justina, who has wowed diners with her cooking at pop-up events and even cooked alongside Gino D’Acampo on his road trip, is now taking the next step in her culinary journey. With funding from the Development Bank, she has turned her dream of a permanent African restaurant into a reality.
Set to open its doors on Monday, 16th December 2024, ONJA will serve lunch and early evening meals from Monday to Saturday, offering dine-in, delivery, and takeaway options. The cosy space will seat around 40 guests, making it an intimate spot to explore the bold, vibrant flavours of Tanzania.

ONJA’s menu offers a mix of traditional street food favourites like Swahili Meat Samosas and Muhogo bites and authentic dishes that celebrate Tanzanian culture and heritage. Main dishes include Kuku Massala and Ugali, mchicha Karanga & Dagga and many more local dishes. With its unique offering, the restaurant is set to make waves in Cardiff’s expanding and diverse food scene.
Whether you’re seeking a culinary adventure or simply want to try something new, ONJA invites you to experience the warmth, spices, and soul of Tanzanian cuisine.
