CARDIFF HARBOUR FESTIVAL HOSTS EXTREME SAILING SERIES™

Big breeze gives boats a boost in 2018 Cardiff Extreme Sailing Series

Renowned for its intense racing, the adrenaline-fuelled Extreme Sailing Series™ returns to Cardiff Bay for the seventh consecutive year.

The only UK stop on the action-packed global circuit, which spans the Middle East, Europe and the Americas, will play host to a fleet of elite-level international sailing teams. Taking on the Series’ regulars on Cardiff’s famously tricky and tactical course, wildcard Team Wales will be looking to prove themselves as hot competition on home waters.

Crewed by a mixture of Welsh and English sailing talent, Team Wales boasts an array of racing accolades, from Olympic campaigns to European and World Championships, with many of the team also having competed on the Extreme Sailing Series circuit in recent years.

The Flying Phantom Series’ two-man hydro-foiling catamarans will enhance the on-the-water racing schedule, ensuring non-stop action.

As well as providing the perfect spot for watching the racing, the event will keep the whole family entertained during the August bank holiday weekend. The Race Village situated on Harbour Drive will boast bars and food stalls, including The Mighty Soft Shell Crab, Grazing Shed and Vive La Crêpe; while in Roald Dahl Plass you’ll find over 30 market stalls selling a range of European foods, Dutch flowers, leather goods and wooden furniture.

Don’t miss the fun-filled line-up for young visitors, with Britannia Park hosting entertainment, such as Circo Rum Ba Ba’s The Whale. Plus, enjoy street theatre over at the Senedd steps, including The Wonder Woman Street Show; the BMX Inspire Show in the Race Village; and live music outside the Norwegian Church, as Christopher Rees Duo, Black Jam Circus and Knitwear Junkees take to the stage on Saturday evening.
