Cardiff has officially joined the padel boom, with the city’s first undercover padel courts opening this week at Llandaff Fields. Smash Padel, the team behind the project, has unveiled six brand-new panoramic and weatherproof courts, offering locals a chance to get in on the UK’s fastest-growing sport – rain or shine.
The courts are part of a wider transformation of leisure facilities at Llandaff Fields, which has also included a full resurfacing of the tennis courts. Designed to be accessible and social, the venue is open seven days a week, from 7am to 10pm, and is already taking online bookings. Coaching sessions and a programme of events are also in the pipeline.

What is padel?
For those new to the game, padel is a fast-paced racket sport that blends tennis and squash. Played in doubles on an enclosed court with glass and mesh walls, it’s easy to pick up and highly addictive – the walls add a squash-like twist, keeping rallies going longer and matches more exciting.
With its panoramic, weatherproof design and central location, Smash Padel Cardiff is set to become the go-to spot for both beginners and seasoned players.
