Cardiff Becomes Verona as & Juliet Arrives

Sets that are popping, music that is pure pop and an actual real-life popstar as the lead role, you must pop down to the Wales Millenium Centre to see & Juliet!

What if Juliet didn’t kill herself when Romeo died? What if she just moved on? Well, Shakespere’s wife has decided the ending of Romeo and Juliet needs a full rewrite and we have the privilege of watching it all be created in front of us whilst getting an insight into what it might have been like to have been married to one of the greatest writers of all time. Was Romeo just a big man slut and will he get to give his own thoughts? Well, there is only one way to find out and that is to go and be highly entertained by a great cast, endless dancing and lots of Britney, Backstreet Boys, and Pink bangers. This was created by the Emmy Award winning writer from “Schitt’s Creek”, and it is so cleverly funny that you won’t be able to feel your face when you come out at the end!

Jay Mcguiness, as Shakespeare, is ridiculously perfect and I didn’t even realise he was Jay from the actual boy band “The Wanted” until after, though now that makes sense especially when he blended with other cast members to form a brilliant new boy band performing the classic As Long As You Love Me.

Lara Denning, playing Anne ( The neglected wife of Shakespeare himself) upped the vocal game with her insanely good version of the Celine Dion classic That’s The Way It Is and just as you thought “Well that is clearly the cast member with THE voice and THE moment…” every other cast member decided to compete for best vocals and no one won as they were all absolute power houses that blended so perfectly together.

The comedy characters of the night were undoubtably Ranj Singh as Lance (The lustful father of Juliet’s latest lover) and Sandra Marvin as Angelique (Juliet’s Nurse). These two have us laughing hard and then still go on the shock with brilliant stand out vocals in Act two.

Juliet is actually played by one of the least experienced people on stage, Gerardine Sacdalan, and although she is small in size and fresh faced, she is fierce and owns the role for sure.

I absolutely adored the oversized carnival style lettering and signs used as part of the bright and beautiful set and the special effects include concert style pyros, glitter and confeti explosions. Honestly the perfect mix of musical and concert vibes and although I always say I am not a big fan of Juke Box Musicals, I think I am finally converted after the last few we have been treated to here in Cardiff. If you recently enjoyed Cruel Intentions, then you will love this show too.

The audience were cheering and laughing loudly throughout, and everyone was bursting to get up and dance along at the end. Standing Ovation all round and people still gasping and giggling as they left.

There still are tickets available and you have until June 28th to see this show in Cardiff.
