Just when you thought the summer food festivals were over, there’s still one big one left to enjoy, and it’s completely free to attend.
The annual St Fagans Food Festival returns to St Fagans National Museum of History this weekend, taking place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2026.
A firm favourite on Wales’ foodie calendar, the festival will see the grounds of the museum filled with more than 80 food, drink and craft stalls, all nestled among the historic buildings that make St Fagans such a unique place to visit.
And this is much more than simply somewhere to grab some lunch.
Visitors can spend the day wandering through centuries of Welsh history while stopping along the way to discover street food traders, independent producers, makers and plenty of sweet treats.
Food on offer will range from freshly cooked pizzas and tacos to doughnuts and ice cream, alongside produce from some of Wales’ best independent food and drink businesses.
There will also be plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices available throughout the weekend.
As well as eating your way around the museum, there will be a packed programme of entertainment and activities.
Visitors can catch live cookery demonstrations inside some of St Fagans’ historic buildings, while live music will provide the soundtrack to the weekend.
For younger visitors, there will be family-friendly activities taking place at different locations around the museum, including circus skills and hands-on activities, giving families plenty to do between exploring the food stalls.
It’s the setting that makes this festival particularly special.
Rather than taking place in a traditional event space, you can wander between historic farmhouses, shops, workshops and buildings moved to St Fagans from across Wales, while discovering food and drink along the way.
So you can arrive for the food festival and easily end up spending the entire day exploring the museum.
With more than 80 traders, live entertainment, cookery demonstrations, children’s activities and one of Cardiff’s most interesting attractions as its backdrop, it’s a pretty good way to squeeze one more food festival into the calendar before autumn properly takes over.
And, importantly, entry to the festival and museum is free, although normal parking charges apply.
