Cymru Football Foundation’s first new, innovative recreational football facility has opened at Grange Gardens in Cardiff.
The Cymru Court – a facility that has been designed to bridge the gap between structured club football and recreational play – is now available creating a high-quality, accessible space for people of all ages to enjoy.
The six‑figure investment from the CFF has transformed the facility which now boasts a modern, durable playing surface and enhanced features that support year‑round, inclusive activity.
The new space in Grangetown now features:
- A new high‑performance 4G surface
- Updated rebound fencing and kick boards
- Improved lighting and security
- A clean, open design for recreational use
Aled Lewis, Director at the Cymru Football Foundation said: “We’re delighted that Grange Gardens has been chosen as the site of Wales’ first Cymru Court.
“This investment will provide a high‑quality, inclusive space for young people, families and local groups, helping to remove barriers to participation and support healthier, more active communities.
“Cymru Courts are about bringing football back to the heart of communities. This first installation will set the standard for future sites across Wales and ensure more people can enjoy the game in a safe, modern, and engaging environment.
“Diolch yn fawr to UK Government and the Premier League for their continued support – together we’re bringing Cymru closer to the game on and off the pitch.”
Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism, Cllr Jennifer Burke, said: “We want to get as many people as possible playing football and enjoying all the health and wellbeing benefits that come with it.
“High-quality, community facilities like this new Cymru Court can play a really important role in making the game accessible to all, so I’m delighted that we’ve been able to work with Cymru Football Foundation to bring Wales’ first Cwrt Cymru to Cardiff.”
Partnerships Manager, Community Gateway, Ali Abdi, said: “I’m incredibly proud that we have been part of the collaboration between Grange Pavilion, our Youth Forum, Street Games Wales, Cardiff Council, and the Cymru Football Foundation that’s brought Wales’ first Cymru Court to Cardiff. This six‑figure investment wouldn’t have been possible without the passion, energy, and commitment from young people, community partners, and local leaders who believe in creating opportunities right here in our neighbourhood of Grangetown.
