Road Closures and Travel Advice for Catfish and the Bottlemen and Faithless Gigs in Cardiff – August 1st

Cardiff is set to welcome thousands of music fans on Friday, 1st August, as two major live music events take over the city centre – Catfish and the Bottlemen at the Principality Stadium and Faithless at Cardiff Castle. With large crowds expected, Cardiff Council has announced extensive road closures, travel restrictions, and parking advice to help people get in and out of the city safely.

Here’s everything you need to know if you’re heading to the city – or want to avoid the disruption.


🛑 Road Closures

To ensure public safety around both events, a full city centre road closure will come into effect from 4pm until midnighton August 1st.

Early Closures from 7am:

  • Scott Road and Park Street (to prepare Gate 5 and manage queues)

Full Closures from 4pm–Midnight:

The following roads will be closed in their entirety:

  • Kingsway (from North Road to Duke Street)
  • Cowbridge Road East (from Cathedral Road to Westgate Street)
  • Tudor Street (from Clare Road to Wood Street – residents/traders can access via Fitzhammon Embankment)
  • Plantagenet Street & Beauchamp Street (from Despenser Place to Tudor Street – access permitted for residents/traders)

Also fully closed:

  • Duke StreetCastle StreetHigh StreetSt Mary StreetCaroline StreetWood StreetCentral SquareWestgate StreetQuay StreetGuildhall PlaceGolatePark StreetHavelock StreetScott Road

Station Terrace and Guildford Street

These will be bus access only during closures to ensure reliable service to satellite points in Churchill Way.

Penarth Road

Will close 30 minutes before the concerts finish and stay shut for up to an hour after – to manage pedestrian flow near Cardiff Central train station.


🚗 Driving & Parking

The M4 is expected to be extremely busy, especially around Cardiff. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the city centrealtogether and use Park & Ride or designated event parking options.

Park & Ride – Vindico Arena (Cardiff Bay, CF11 0JS)

  • Drop-off point: Tresillian Way (city centre)
  • Open from: Staff on site at 9am; first bus leaves at 11am
  • Last bus back: Midnight
  • Cost: £15 (cash only)

Civic Centre Event Parking

  • Access controlled throughout the day
  • Roads affected: King Edward VII AveMuseum AveCity Hall RoadCollege RoadGorsedd Gardens
  • Cost: £20 for cars, £30 for coaches (card accepted)
  • Open: 8am
