Welsh producer and multi-instrumentalist The Anchoress has announced her first ever Cardiff headline show this summer, where she will preview her upcoming album.
The Anchoress, also known as Catherine Anne Davies, is set to return with new music this year. Fresh from a run of summer UK dates appearing with Manic Street Preachers, the new live dates will provide a first glimpse at new music from her third studio album, with a full live band.
The Welsh date will be at Tramshed in Cardiff on Friday, 13th June 2025.
Tickets will be available on artist presale from Wednesday, 29th January at 10am.
This marks the first The Anchoress headline show in the Welsh capital. “I’m so excited to be playing my first ever headline show in Cardiff city centre,” shared Catherine, “It’s a city really close to my heart, with music running through its veins, and after appearing as a special guest with the Manics at their summer shows at Cardiff Castle last year I can’t wait to be back!
The Anchoress already has two acclaimed studio albums to her name, amassing an army of celebrity fans along the way including The Cure frontman Robert Smith, Caitlin Moran, and Elton John. Her trademark literate baroque songwriting mixes epic melancholic guitar anthems alongside “swaggering synth-pop” (Uncut) and “shining alt-pop from the artisan of darkness” (Record Collector).
Her Top 40 second album ‘The Art of Losing’ successfully transformed wall-to-wall critical plaudits into a Top 10 position in the UK physical charts, as well as the #1 spot on iTunes. It was also named an album of the year by The Sunday Times, The Line of Best Fit, Mail on Sunday, Prog and The Sun, and hailed as “one of my favourite records of the year” by Sir Elton John.
She has since been twice nominated for the Welsh Music Prize and has previously collaborated with Manic Street Preachers, Bernard Butler and Simple Minds.
‘Versions’, her recent collection of imaginative re-workings of indie anthems, was named an album of the year by the Mail on Sunday and heralded by The Sunday Times as “beguiling and insightful.” This covers collection of tracks by Radiohead, REM, Depeche Mode, Nirvana and The Cure was hailed as “spine tingling” by BBC 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins and “a thrill for teenage goth girls everywhere” by Mojo.
