With just a day to go until Cardiff’s Welsh arts and culture festival Tafwyl takes place, the organisers of the event have announced the full programme in addition to details of Tafwyl’s Fringe Festival.
The fringe activity will begin on June 24th, with 37 events taking place over 8 days. It will include something for everyone – from music, literature, guided tours, food & drink, events for learners and things for children to do right across the city.
Highlights include Bragdy’r Beirdd – a night of poetry and song with Welsh singer Huw Chiswell; guided walks around Pontcanna and Llandaff with Jon Gower, an Ignite Cardiff Tafwyl special and the launch of Caru Creu – a social group bringing the creative community in Cardiff together.
Following a week of events, the main event will take place on the 1st and 2nd of July in Llandaff Fields, Tafwyl’s temporary home. Tafwyl 2017 will include a mix of the biggest names in Welsh culture and sport. Entry to Tafwyl is free. Yws Gwynedd, Alys Williams, Bryn Fôn, Geraint Jarman, Kizzy Crawford, Meic Stevens, Candelas and HMS Morris are amongst the acts performing across 3 stages over the weekend.
Food and Drink 
In addition to the fantastic music lined up for Tafwyl 2017, it promises to be a foodie’s paradise – with the Milgi pop-up restaurant coming to the event for the first time, more street food stalls than ever before, plenty of bars and lots of interesting tasting sessions and demos taking place in the food and drink marquee – Popty – with guests including Imran Nathoo (BBC Masterchef), Purple Poppadom, Curado Bar and Science Cream.
Byw yn y Ddinas Yurt
The ‘Byw yn y Ddinas’ (Cardiff Life) Yurt  will be full of Q & A sessions, discussion panels, short plays, and stories. – such as Cofion Ralgex, where the author Llwyd Owen discusses memories of growing up in the capital city with Huw Stephens, Lowri Haf Cooke, Ani Glass, and Aled Rheon; and Dr Lisa Sheppard will be leading the discussion Bilingualism in Literature and the Creative Industries with Mared Swain and Alun Saunders.
Lolfa Len (Literature Tent)
Sessions in the Literature Tent include Talwrn y Beirdd and Talwrn Y Beirdd Bach with Casia William; the launch of a new series of short stories Fabuyla with Llyr Gwyn Lewis and
Gwesty Cymru with singer Geraint Jarman who will be talking about his book Rhywbeth i’w Ddweud.
Children
In Wales Millennium Centre’s magical yurt there will be plenty to keep youngers occupied – from craft sessions to lots of activities that the whole family can enjoy. And in the Bwrlwm area there will be gardening sessions, printing workshops and much more.
For the first time, there will also be a family rave with DJ Gareth Potter, with glow sticks, glitter and loads of fun.
The Baby Yurt will be run by The Green Giraffe Nursery. There will be lots of fun and interesting activities for young children to take part in throughout the weekend with scheduled group sessions as well as open activities to pop in and take part in. The cosy chilled out area will also have a feeding station and baby changing unit.
Teenagers
Yurt T is an area where young people can hang out – which will feature performances from Hyll, Mabli Tudur, Bethany Celyn, Eady Crawford, Mellt and Patrobas, workshops, competitions and much more.
Sport  
The Urdd Sports Department are co-ordinating a full timetable of football, rugby, golf, athletics and hockey sessions at Tafwyl. Partners include the FAW, Cardiff City Foundation and Go Air
Learners
In the Learners’ Tent, there will be plenty of interesting guests over the weekend, including actors from Pobol y Cwm and folk singer Gareth Bonello. There will also be a Macbeth workshops with National Theatre Wales.
Tafwyl’s Organiser Llinos Williams, from Menter Caerdydd said: “We can’t wait to welcome familiar faces back to Tafwyl and to welcome lots of new people as we move to Llandaff Fields for this year’s event. The line-up is superb and shows Welsh culture at its very finest”.
