Enjoy a bumper Yuletide night as Cardiff get’s ready to step into Christmas with a showcase of award winning events and entertainment to help the festive season be ‘merry and bright’.

The magical season officially commences in the Welsh capital on Thursday 12 November as we Step Into Christmas. See the city centre undergo a spectacular transformation with a cornucopia of Christmassy characters, music and entertainment. Entertainment and attractions include appearances by children’s favourites Captain Barnacles and Kwazii from the Octonauts at intervals throughout the evening outside St David’s Hall.

The beautiful Cairngorm Reindeer will parade through the city centre pulling Santa on his sleigh, leaving Cardiff Central Library at 4.30pm. They then make their way down the Hayes round St John’s Church; back up the Hayes turning right into Wharton Street, then onto St Mary Street where they will remain in their pen opposite the entrance to Cardiff Central Market until 7.30pm.

The Christmas Market is back alongside a variety of seasonal food and drink stalls creating a beautiful Festival Quarter throughout St John Street, Working Street, The Hayes and Trinity Street.

This year the Christmas Market is bigger than ever as it expands into Hills Street, offering an array of original gifts, complementing the already exceptional Christmas shopping experience in our capital city.

With over 190 exhibitors over 42 days, you will be certain to find original and unusual gifts for your loved ones including bespoke silver jewellery, wooden turned gifts, original artwork across all mediums, handmade quilts and textiles, traditional pewter gifts and slate products to name just a few.

To help you get into and out of the city centre safely Cardiff Bus are encouraging visitors to Step into Christmas to travel by bus. On the 12th November from 15:00, Cardiff Bus is reducing the price of a family ticket in a bid to encourage more people to travel by bus to the festive celebrations.

A family ticket, which can be used by one adult with up to four young persons, 5-18 years of age, or two adults with up to three young persons, will cost £5 in Cardiff, Penarth and to/from Newport or £7 across all its services including Barry.

Park and Ride services are also running from Cardiff East and Cardiff South.

The evening also marks the opening of Cardiff’s WalesOnline Winter Wonderland on City Hall Lawn, and the start of late-night shopping.

The Leader of the City of Cardiff Council, Cllr Phil Bale said: “Christmas in Cardiff really is a magical time and we strive to bring the city alive with a host of events aimed at all the family.

“In recent years Step Into Christmas has become a firm favourite amongst visitors and residents which kicks-off the start of the festive season in the city. This, along with Cardiff Winter Wonderland, the Christmas market, late night shopping, theatre and all of the activities taking place in the City Centre and Cardiff Bay makes for a must-see on everyone’s Christmas list, whether you’re naughty or nice.”

Tickets are now on sale for Cardiff’s WalesOnline Winter Wonderland which offers ice skating sessions for all the family as well as attractions around the ice such as the Big Wheel, fun fair attractions and the Alpine Village boasting a Bier Keller amongst the authentic chalets which will be serving delicious treats including German sausages cooked on a traditional swing grill and freshly made crepes. New for this year is the Cardiff Ice Kingdom, the magical new addition to where you can enjoy an awe-inspiring walk through a fantastical world of real ice and snow. The first of its kind in Wales, young and old will be enchanted by this icy world full of fairy-tale magic!
