Review: Catfish and the Bottlemen

The majestic sight of Cardiff Castle back lit by the setting sun was once again sound tracked by some quality live music last night.

Firstly the crowd was welcomed with British indie rock band The Big Moon. The perfect tunes for golden hour at the castle.

Then the lights went out and the unmistakable beats started pounding out as Catfish And The Bottleman took to the stage.Longshot was the the hit of choice to start their epic set. There was something about this crowd. Not only did they sing along to the big numbers with passion, but they all sang constantly throughout the whole set as if they had been listening to this band (and this band only) on repeat for their whole lives.

Van McCann and his band mates lead us through a catalogue of tracks including Seven, Homesick and Kathleen. With the powerful sounds, cinematic lighting and black and white visuals of the performance on screen (including lots of shots of the enthusiastic packed crowds), it was easy to feel like we were witnessing another hugely iconic moment here at the castle.

The night came to a close with one last anthem in the form of Cocoon, the 2014 single from their debut album The Balcony. What a way to end a perfect summer evening in the Welsh capital.
