Singer Grace Carter to fill Cardiff Bay with music as part of Pizzaexpress’ Live Summer sessions’
PizzaExpress Cardiff Mermaid Quay will be hosting Live Summer Sessions – a series of al fresco performances celebrating Britain’s musical talent, in support of music therapy charity, Nordoff and Robbins, with a special appearance from the British soul-pop star Grace Carter on Friday 11th August.
Diners will be able to experience uplifting acoustic performances from 10thAugust – 13th August, while they enjoy popular pizzas such as the Sloppy Giuseppe or American Hot, not forgetting the family favourite…Dough Balls. Having kicked off in Manchester and already stopped by Liverpool, Leeds and London, Live Summer Sessions now takes to the stage in Cardiff before travelling to its final stop of Brighton as PizzaExpress aims to fill the UK’s streets with music this summer.
Live Summer Sessions is a continuation of PizzaExpress’ longstanding heritage with live music and British singer-songwriter Grace Carter, whose breakthrough moment was placing third on the BBC’s Sound of 2019 list, will be performing at the Mermaid Quay restaurant on Friday. Diners can expect to hear acoustic renditions of her latest hits, including the highly acclaimed EP ‘A Little Lost, A Little Found’, which has been dubbed by music critics as ‘ambitious, sophisticated work’ and is worth the five year wait.
Grace’s surprise performance follows the launch of the series earlier this summer with pop rock icons McFly. Following in the footsteps of other musical figures such as Gregory Porter, Van Morrison and Amy Winehouse who have graced the PizzaExpress Live stage since opening its first jazz club in 1976, Tom, Danny, Dougie and Harry took to the stage in London with an acoustic set of McFly’s biggest hits including ballads and crowd-pleasers ‘All About You’, ‘Star Girl’ and ‘Obviously’.

The surprises don’t stop there as British singer-songwriter Zak Abel, who has previously collaborated with acclaimed artists including Kygo and Avicii, stopped passers-by in their tracks as he performed acoustic renditions of his hits in Leeds and delighted onlookers by taking requests from fans including “Say Sumthin’”.
With the last stop in Brighton Marina next week, diners should keep their eyes peeled for more head-turning acts for the finale of Live Summer Sessions.
One slot at each location has also been reserved for a lucky emerging artist, who entered PizzaExpress’ competition element of the series to be in with a chance of being awarded by a panel of judges a money-can’t-buy-prize: the opportunity to record an album via PX Records and perform at one of PizzaExpress’ iconic music venues.

PizzaExpress Live locations present more than 1,500 shows each year, but Live Summer Sessions takes this passion for live music across the UK as summer evenings provide the perfect backdrop for music and dining. The series will see all performers taking part raising money for the brand’s national charity partner, music therapy charity, Nordoff and Robbins.
