The Popular Pizza Chain to bring their iconic Neapolitan pizza to cardiff this august celebrating with 1000 free slices!
Pizza lovers of Cardiff, rejoice! Pizza Pilgrims is thrilled to announce the opening of their first pizzeria beyond the English borders in the vibrant city centre of Cardiff at 1-4 High Street on Friday, 16th August. To celebrate ahead of opening, they will be giving away 1,000 free slices of the good stuff on Monday, 5th August, starting from 12pm.
Since 2012, Pizza Pilgrims have been renowned for their signature Neapolitan style pizza and quirky cult faves across London and beyond. The key to their success is the 72-hour double-fermented pillowy dough which makes the pizzas light, chewy and moreish. Variations on much loved classics and standout ‘authentically inauthentic’ options are the order of the day; including the Margherita Extra-Extra, which is everything you want from a classic Margarita, but with added Piennolo tomatoes, a whole creamy burrata & fresh basil pesto and the Carbonara pizza, which is topped with guanciale, Pecorino, egg yolk and finished with strands of al dente pasta, for a less traditional take on the iconic pasta dish.

The Cardiff pizzeria has been designed especially to transport guests to the Amalfi Coast for a summer holiday, even if just for a one-hour lunch. The interior will feature brightly coloured tiles, a
bar reminiscent of a beachfront shop, a unique speedboat booth table and a fizzy water fountain – all centered around Pizza Pilgrims’ giant pizza oven to complete the Italian coastal impression. Outside, jumbo striped awnings will wrap around the corner opposite Cardiff Castle, creating a glorious terrazza for enjoying spritzes and pizzas in the sunshine. The new pizzeria has 90 covers inside and 48 outside, with space for bookings and walk-ins.
Founders James and Thom Elliot started Pizza Pilgrims in 2012 after a six-week ‘pizza pilgrimage’ across Italy in a three-wheeled Ape, searching for the finest pizzas and ingredients. They’ve been sharing their discoveries ever since, and this first pizzeria in a new country, Wales, is the next exciting chapter in their journey.
Pizza Pilgrims is built on the foundation of their pilgrimages through Italy and follows the simple Italian belief that the best ingredients make the best pizza. For this reason, all key ingredients are imported from Italy – from the best ’00’ flour Naples has to offer from the famous Caputo mill, to their tomato sauce made from only Italian San Marzano tomatoes and their fior di latte mozzarella from Napoli which they ship direct to the pizzeria every week.
“We’re over the moon to be joining Cardiff’s thriving restaurant scene,” said co-founder James Elliot. “The city has a fantastic Italian food heritage, and we can’t wait to bring a slice of Napoli to Cardiff. Our goal is to create a fun, welcoming pizzeria where people can enjoy great food and feel like they’re on holiday in Southern Italy.”
Working with local partners is equally important to Pizza Pilgrims, who are proud to announce award-winning local brewery and fellow B Corp Tiny Rebel as their beer partner. Together they will be building the world’s first Amalfi speedboat beer-booth where guests can relax in a classic speed boat, with an Amalfi backdrop, sipping on a cold one and eating pizza fresh from the oven.
To kick off their soft launch week, the team will be celebrating by giving away 1000 free slices of pizza on a first come, first served basis on Monday 5th August from 12pm onwards. There will also be fresh Welsh cakes baked by Johnny’s (Pizza Pilgrim’s Head of Sustainability) mum who lives in Newport and makes the best Welsh cakes in the world (according to Johnny!).
