One of Cardiff’s oldest and most loved pubs is serving up something new this summer, with the launch of a brand-new smashed burger kitchen.
The Traders Tavern, tucked beside the Utilita Arena Cardiff, has been welcoming concert-goers, locals and visitors for more than 40 years. As the last family-run pub in Cardiff city centre, it’s seen the city change dramatically over the decades while remaining a favourite pre-gig stop.
Owned and run by Stephanie Hawtin, the pub has always served food, from breakfasts and sandwiches to classic pub favourites. Now, it’s adding another reason to visit.

Teaming up with her brother Fraser, Stephanie has launched a dedicated Smash’d Cardiff burger kitchen, serving every Thursday to Saturday.
The new menu features six freshly made smashed burgers, alongside crispy chicken wings and loaded fries, and it’s already proving a hit with regulars just two weeks after launching.
The burger line-up includes The Original Don, featuring two smashed beef patties, American cheese, lettuce and pickles in a brioche bun, as well as The Mexican, The Naughty Pig, The Big Beef, The Mints Baabaa and a vegetarian option.

Priced between £11.95 and £12.95, the burgers are generously sized, packed with flavour and every bit as indulgent as they look.
With the response already exceeding expectations, the family is looking ahead to the busy concert season by building an outdoor kitchen to help keep up with demand on major event days at the nearby Utilita Arena.

For gig-goers looking for a proper meal before a show, or burger lovers searching for somewhere new to try in the city centre, the Traders Tavern is proving that even after more than four decades, there’s always room to evolve.
The smash’d burger kitchen is open Thursday to Saturday, while the pub’s regular breakfast, sandwich and pub menu continues to be served throughout the week.
If you want to give them a try head to the Traders Tavern 6-8 David Street, Cardiff Cf10 2EH
They are open from 4pm Thursday- Saturday
