Sŵn Festival 2017 will return to Cardiff this Autumn – not just for one weekend, but a whole month of live music events in the Welsh capital and beyond.
The festival, which celebrated 10 years last year, will return from Friday 22 September to Saturday 21 October with a series of Sŵn warm up shows in venues across south Wales leading up to the weekend we all know and love.
Shows will include the joyous SONGHOY BLUES for their second visit to Cardiff. JEN CLOHER will perform her debut show in Clwb Ifor Bach with special band member, COURTNEY BARNETT.
THE AMAZONS are tipped to sell out Tramshed (only six people attended the concert when Sŵn brought them to Cardiff in 2015) and THIS IS THE KIT, a favourite of the festival’s, will headline The Globe.
Plus, there’s shows from AQUILO, CLEAN CUT KID and SKINTS, the latter a one-off show in Swansea.
Created by Radio 1’s, Huw Stephens and music promoter John Rostron, Sŵn brings together new and emerging artists to play in the venues that support and nurture the best new acts.
John Rostron said: “For a while I’d deliberated over Sŵn’s future, but we had an over whelming response to last year’s event and a huge demand from the music scene in Wales that this festival is needed.
“Turning 10 gave us an opportunity to rebuild the festival in a new way. Sŵn has been putting on shows outside of the main weekend for a while, so it will now bring a series of concerts together across a whole month.
“This is just the beginning of the fun, there are plenty more surprises to come yet, so watch this space.”
This year’s festival is once again supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Open Fund, PRS, Stereoboard and AIF. New supporters for this year are Cardiff Business Improvement District and PPL.
Tickets for these events are on sale now and are ticketed like a normal concert. For more information go to swnfest.com or follow @swnissound on Twitter.
