Love Love love!!! My first sparkly and beaming five stars for this year at the Wales Millennium Centre for sure!
This is the story of a son trying to save his fathers generationally owned shoe factory. The only way how, seems to be to find a niche and after bumping into a tough Drag Queen on the streets of London and meeting her team of angels, he soon realises that the way up is via some specially reinforced heels made especially for a new kind of woman.
Is this just a musical full of sass and fashion though? Not at all! It’s so packed with humour and passion that you will most certainly laugh through most scenes and join the rest of the audience as they cheer on characters as they face big challenges (both physically and mentally) throughout the show.

You may have heard that this cast is being led by a professional from Strictly Come Dancing and some have been worried that maybe this is just a gimmick especially as Johannes Radebe seems to have little to no experience in musical theatre. Well let me settle your fears as he absolutely stole the show as lead character Lola! His dancing was undoubtedly gorgeous, as was the choreography, but his voice matched up to this too. The way he stood in the sparkling spotlights and belted out his final solo, looking more glamorous than any idol that you dare compare him to, was nothing but superstar heavenly perfection.
Of course the show would be nothing without the amazing cast around him. I especially loved Courtney Bowman’s rendition of The History Of Wrong Guys. A super funny song acted out hilariously in a totally relatable way, just with an incredible voice singing it. Then Scott Paige kept the audience giggling with his brilliant portrayal of factory worker George.
The biggest problem with this show here in Cardiff is not the lack of acceptance of such encouraging and self loving support for all types of community, but the lack of tickets left available. Honestly I was worried when I had heard that it had almost sold out, as I thought surely it can’t be that good? It was though and I’m truly so grateful I got to see it and if you have a ticket for this show then you most certainly won’t regret getting it.
