Independent Coffee Favourite Society Café Is Opening Its First Welsh Site in Cardiff

A much loved independent coffee name is heading to Cardiff, with Society Café set to open a brand new site on St Mary Street this spring. The café will take over the former Pieminister unit, bringing speciality coffee and warm hospitality to one of the city’s busiest streets.

Founded in 2011 by Jane and Adrian, Society Café started with a simple idea. Create a beautiful, friendly coffee shop serving high quality speciality coffee at a time when it was still hard to find. More than a decade on, that approach has earned them a loyal following across the South West.

Society Café now operates six venues across Bath, Bristol, Oxford and Cheltenham, and the Cardiff opening marks a big milestone as their first site in Wales. The team is known just as much for genuine, thoughtful hospitality as they are for their deep knowledge of the coffees they serve.

Speciality coffee is at the heart of the menu, with two espresso blends available each day. This includes their house blend from Origin Coffee Roasters in Cornwall, alongside a regularly rotating guest blend that keeps things interesting for returning customers. Visitors can also expect a selection of locally baked goods to enjoy alongside their coffee.

The new Cardiff café will be a sizeable space, with seating across both the ground floor and basement, as well as plenty of outdoor tables for warmer days. It is a strong location and one that suits Society’s relaxed, welcoming style perfectly.

If all goes to plan, Society Café is hoping to open its doors in the first couple of weeks of April. For Cardiff coffee lovers, this is shaping up to be a very welcome addition to the city centre.
