Gravity Circus is coming to WALES – Newport Tredegar Park and features an award-winning artist and acrobat who’s determination is an inspiration to us all!
Gravity Circus is making its Welsh debut at Newport’s Tredegar Park from 25th to 29th September, offering an Italian circus spectacle like no other. This stunning show features a unique blend of water, light, and jaw-dropping acrobatics, but it’s the extraordinary Silke Pan who steals the spotlight. An award-winning acrobat, Silke’s journey is as inspirational as her performances are breathtaking.
Silke’s career as an acrobat took her across Europe until 2007 when a tragic accident during a trapeze performance left her paralysed from the waist down. Despite the devastating injury, Silke refused to give up. After months of rehabilitation, she threw herself into hand cycling, becoming a champion in the sport. In 2016, she even stood and walked again using an advanced exoskeleton, a testament to her determination.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Silke rediscovered her passion for circus performance. With the help of her husband Didier, she began working on new acrobatic techniques. Using a modified snowboard, she achieved a handstand for the first time since her accident. Her muscle memory kicked in, allowing her to create a unique form of hand balancing, despite her paralysis. Silke has since returned to the stage, becoming the world’s first professional hand balancer with complete paraplegia.
Gravity Circus offers audiences not just a dazzling display of circus talent but also the chance to witness Silke’s extraordinary comeback. Her story of resilience and triumph over adversity is nothing short of inspirational, making her performance a highlight of the show.
