Death Drop: Back In The Habit

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Back with a vengeance,  Cardiff is once again the host of royalty as the drag Queens and Kings return for a second helping of comedy, horror, and glamour in this second outing for the Death Drop crew. Expect rude jokes, slapstick comedy and a touch of music and dancing. Let’s be fair if you’re a fan of RuPaul then this is essential viewing for you, anyone still on the fence… read on.

This time around the plot follows a Father as he visits the reclusive Sisters of St Babs convent. But the holy trip is put on ice when the nuns start dropping like flies and the murder mystery can begin. The characters may have lost the plot, but the story itself was actually really enthralling, elevating this show above mere parody and into a play to be proud of. Filled with twists and turns and spooky surprises, even without the comedy I think Back In The Habit could function as a pretty compelling ghost story.

The second instalment in the Death Drop Cinematic Universe, Back In The Habit is a show that is made by drag artists for drag artists and, funnily enough, stars a load of famous drag artists! Global superstar William takes on the role of Sis Titis, bringing their usual dry humour and musical talents to the role. LoUis CYfer was superb in the role of Father Alfie Romeo and kept the whole show moving briskly through the ridiculous set pieces with ease. But a standout for us was seeing Victoria Scone on her home turf in Cardiff. She was magnificent and filled the crowd with pride seeing one of their own on this award winning UK touring show. Not even finding out the football score in the interval could dampen the Welsh pride.

I mean proper over 18 stuff that had the whole audience cackling with laughter. I genuinely heard someone behind me gasping for air at one point. I’m sure you already know what to expect if you’re a fan of drag comedy, but I do feel like they turned the dial up a bit here, even compared to the first Death Drop play. You’ve been warned! Expect to be horrified and hooting with uncontrollable laughter at the same time.

Overall, we had a good idea of what to expect from Death Drop Back In The Habit and had high expectations going in. The show met all of these with ease. If you’re a fan of drag then this is an absolute no brainer, get down to the New Theatre this week before you miss out. If you haven’t experienced a drag show before but love crude comedy, mystery and horror blended into one, then this may just be the show for you to check out![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
