And this year, not only is December bringing the festive season along with it, but it’s also bringing wales’ third series of national lockdown restrictions, with all bars, pubs, and restaurants having to stop selling alcohol and shut at 6pm.

While some of the city’s most-notable festive events have sadly had to be cancelled this year, following the announcement from Mark Drakeford on the latest restrictions, there’s still plenty of ways to celebrate.

You’ll just have to go a slightly different way about it.

With everything from award-winning light and lantern festivals, to drive-in cinemas and social distanced Santa’s Grottos though, you won’t be stuck for choice.

Do note that each event listed is subject to change as a result of any potential further government announcements, so it’s advised to keep informed and check the details of each event just ahead of making any trips to avoid disappointment.

Horrible Christmas Panto

The festive season is in danger. No, not from this year’s usual suspects, but from a jolly man in red (gasp!). The future of Christmas rests on one young boy, but he’s going to need some help. Join history’s super-est super group ever (Charles Dickens! Henry VIII! St Nicholas! Oliver Cromwell?) and buckle up for a hilarious time-travelling journey through a world of Medieval monks, Puritan parties, Tudor treats and Victorian villains.

Christmas in a car park has never been more fun.

Welsh Heart Santa & Elf Dash

Wales’ biggest festive fun run is back for 2020 – but this time, it’s VIRTUAL! Have fun this Christmas and go the extra mile by joining Calon for a lifesaving virtual 5K dash.

Welsh Hearts ask that you run the event in groups of no more than 30, in a location of your choice. The benefit of this is that there will be no restrictions to Cardiff only residents as the race can be run anywhere across Wales.
