In a city already full of great food and trendy eateries, bringing something fresh to Cardiff’s restaurant scene is bound to be a challenge. However, the new Base+Barley, which has recently opened on Cardiff’s Queen Street, has done just that.
With its trademark sourdough pizzas and large selection of craft beers (which includes their own brew), Base+Barley is already a hit with the locals. An independently run business by the founders of Artigiano, this is a pizza place with a twist.
The venue itself is relaxed and welcoming, with bare brick walls and fairy lights creating a warm and endearing atmosphere. Its chic interior would fit in well in downtown Soho yet it still has the friendly feel that Cardiff is well known for.
As far as the food is concerned, their menu provides something to tickle everyone’s taste buds. From freshly stone baked pizzas – which they proclaim “could hold their own in the backyards of Napoli” – to homemade gourmet burgers, there’s certainly enough choice to keep you going back for more. Even better, everything is very reasonably priced too, with all main dishes ranging from £6.95 to £10.95.
 
Base+Barley have created something special. This is comfort food at its finest.
