The new Cardiff restaurants and bars to enjoy Summer 2022

Openings include a Cardiff Bay venue with panoramic views and two super-hot eateries

Finally, it seems like 2022 is the year we fully put the past behind us and we can start looking forward to new foodie hot spots popping up around the city. We’ve put together a list of the new venues opening across the capitol in the near future. We cannot wait to try them all!

Reaper Food

Cardiff has just got its very own dedicated hot sauce restaurant, as Reaper Food opens its first venue in Canton. All their hot sauces are vegan friendly and gluten free and made right here in Wales. You can grab a burger or wings in store and take some of their delicious seasonings and sauces home with you. Try the original recipe Mabon 2021 sauce for a classic Reaper taste and take home the Bone Dust Trilogy to season your BBQs this summer, spicing up your food with Garlic & Herb, Chilli and more. Reaper Food opened on 30th of April.

Fowl & Fury

Street food favourite Fowl & Fury is finally getting its own venue in Cathays. After a run at Sticky Fingers on Richmond Road, we cannot wait for the Nashville Hot Chicken joint to open its doors early in the Summer season this year. We would absolutely recommend a succulent Chicken Burger with the House Blue Cheese Sauce and fries with plenty of sweet gherkins on the side.

Sit of new Gin Ne Sais Quoi

Gin Ne Sais Quoi

Finally, the Swansea favourite Gin bar is expanding to launch a second bar in Cardiff. Currently on Swansea Waterfront, the Gin bar is coming to Mill Lane soon. With lots of live music on the weekends and large screens showing live sports, you can finally watch the Six Nations with some classy G & Ts in hand. Opening till late on the weekends, this will quickly become one of your favourite bars to spend an evening in the city.


Club House in Cardiff Bay

The new relaxed dining bar/restaurant will be located in the heart of Mermaid Quay, as part of a high-profile, 9,000 sq ft two-storey unit – complete with balcony area overlooking Tacoma Square and Cardiff Bay – previously occupied by S.A. Brain & Co’s Salt bar.

The Cocktail Club

St Mary’s Street is about to add another club to the mix with Cocktail Club coming soon. From what we’ve seen on their Instagram, we’re pretty sure Cocktail Club is going to deliver wild nights and plenty of delicious tipples in the summer. From their cheeky Brunch with the Boys events to a daily Happy Hour. You can expect banging tunes, entertaining bartenders, and wild party vibes.


Fat Hippo Burgers

A new contender is rising on Church Street, as Fat Hippo is gearing up to take on the already impressive burger scene in the city. Contending with city favourite honest burgers amongst many other, Fat Hippo will soon unveil its signature beef byrgrs and boneless buttermilk chicken soon in May. It’s a proven fact that Cardiff loves a burger so we’re certain Fat Hippo will deliver something special to the scene.


One O'clock Dinas Powys

Just outside the city centre in Dinas Powys a new Classic pub has opened. Promising a relaxed ‘local’ vibe you can chill with a coffee, grab a bite for lunch or wine and dine with their evening menu. Or if you just fancy meeting with friends for a pint then they’ve got you covered too.

After the close of the previous coffee spot in Llanrumney Hall Community Trust the incredible team behind The Thackeray were asked to fill the spot. Not ones to shy from a challenge, the award winning team have pulled out all the stops to launch this new Community café. They have already made the Thackeray one of the highest rated pubs on trip advisor in the city so this ones bound to be another hit. Its just opened so you can head over and grab a coffee now!

Caribbean Way

Caribbean infused street food in the heart of the city anyone? Open Tuesday to Saturday the popular street food vendor has just opened a new permanent venue in Saltmead. You can devour a delicious American Breakfast with fluffy scrambled eggs , Turkey rashers, sugar waffles, fresh fruit and Maple Syrup and potato hash, or stick around till later in the day and get your hands on some Jerk Chicken Wraps and Waffles. Delicious!

Giggling Squid

After conquering most of the UK its time for Giggling Squid to take on Wales. A Thai restaurant serving up main courses and tapas, you may have to wait until December but we’re certain its going to be worth it. Opening in St David’s Shopping centre you can get some traditional Pad Thai, Chicken Wings and, of course, squid. Get this one in your diaries for a Christmas treat.


Scaredy Cats Woking Street

A new independent café is popping up on Working Street on the 19th of May. You can expect some pretty chilled vibes here, with just some light bites of food. The main focus being one plenty of delicious coffee for you to sip while you chill with friends or in the corner with a nice book. We’re already eyeing this one for some lunchtime escapes or a place to work with friends over a few steaming lattes.
