Cardiff’s Tramshed will host the long-awaited return of alt-rock band Bôa, as they bring their rescheduled show to the city — much to the delight of fans old and new.
Formed in London in 1993, Bôa originally made their mark on the underground music scene with a sound rooted in funk, evolving into a distinctive fusion of moody guitar riffs, powerful vocals, and genre-blending rhythms. They rose to cult fame with their 1998 track Duvet, best known as the opening theme to the experimental anime Serial Experiments Lain.
Two decades on, Duvet found a new generation of listeners when it went viral on TikTok, racking up over 600,000 playsand reigniting interest in the band’s back catalogue. The unexpected resurgence during lockdown led to a major revival, with Bôa reforming and releasing new music — including their first track in 17 years, Whiplash.
The Cardiff date of the ‘Whiplash’ tour was unfortunately postponed due to illness. “Dear beautiful people of Cardiff, unfortunately my cold has got the better of me and I have to rest my voice today,” singer Jasmine shared in a statement, “I’m so gutted but we’re postponing tonight’s show at Tramshed. A new date will be announced shortly, so please hold on to your tickets and we will have something special in store for you at that show. Alternatively, refunds are available from your point of purchase. Love from me (Jasmine) and Lee and all the Boa gang xx”
The band’s return marks a full-circle moment for longtime fans while opening the door to a fresh wave of listeners discovering their music for the first time. The Cardiff date, originally scheduled earlier this year, has now been rebooked as part of their UK tour — and it’s set to be a powerful night of nostalgic alt-rock energy.
Expect a packed crowd, a renewed setlist, and the unmistakable sound of a band whose influence has only grown with time.
