The places we are looking forward to reopening as restrictions are lifted

After yet another bout of restrictions for the Welsh entertainment industry, there are a whole host of venues coming out swinging this Friday with a boat load of events for you to choose from. After missing out on some frankly much needed relief from a dreary January, we are over the moon to see some normality returning to the industry this weekend. Here’s our list of just some of our favourite venues returning to normal and the events you can check out.

Wales Millennium Centre

Straight out of the gate with one of our favourite childhood films, being brought to life on stage this weekend, the WMC raises its curtains for the classic Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Expect magical visuals, catchy tunes, and a great night out at the theatre for all the family. All going well the WMC has an impressive range of events planned for the rest of 2022 including Rhod Gilbert, The Lion King and School of Rock!

New Theatre

Another firm favourite to kick us off at the New Theatre this week, the music of Neil Diamond will start the show on Friday getting the ball rolling again. Closely followed by cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Its time to do the Time Warp and dust off your stilettos and fishnets and dress up for a night of musical excellence. In the near future you can also experience Hairspray, Dracula and kids favourite The Tiger Who Came For Tea.

Ice Hockey

Sports fans will also be returning to the stands this Friday and where better to start than a night at the rink, cheering on the Cardiff Devils as they take on the Fife Flyers. Keep your foam fingers at the ready though because the team have a tough weekend at home as they go against the Nottingham Panthers on Saturday night.

Arcade Vaults

Among the many small businesses that have not been able to open as normal, whilst maintaining social distancing measures, the Arcade Vaults can finally level up back to full health. Undoubtably gaming has been a source of entertainment for many under various lockdown rules and now you can get back to playing with friends with beer on tap, just in time for the Global Game Jam where games designers, artists, programmers, and audio designers will have the weekend to conceive and build a game as part of a worldwide competition.

Its no secret that one of the hardest hit industries throughout the whole pandemic has been the night clubbing industry. Here’s a list of just some of the city centre clubs that are belatedly kicking off 2022 with a bang this Friday.

Clwb Ifor Bach

You can get some last-minute tickets for Lone Lady on the top floor of Clwb on Friday, a post punk inspired Mancunian with hints of dance and funk. Or check out the bottom floor for the Friday night classic that is Nuke!, full to the brim with throwback anthems, chart toppers and Indie sing-alongs. Or if you’re already busy with one of the other events you can still dance between three floors on Saturday night for the return of Dirty Pop.

Canadian composer, Daniel Victor Snaith a.k.a. Caribou will be raising the roof off the Tramshed on Friday night. After seeing their unbelievable headline performance at Greenman last summer we’re ecstatic to see them return to Wales for what promises to be another mind-blowing show. Or you could wait until Sunday night for some absolute Club Classics from industry legends Soul II Soul, or both!

The longstanding home of all that is punk, pop and rock nestled right in the heart of the city, the Metros Grand Re-Re-Re-Opening: MELTDOWN event is happening this Friday. I’m sure with all that we’ve come to know and love from the underground venue; a playlist straight out of our punky teenage years, cheap drinks and (if you make it that far) toast at 3AM. The ultimate pop punk night out.

Finally, re-opening for it’s usual Friday night of rock, Fuel can put away the tables and restore the dance floor. Giving us all enough space to headbang, mosh and throw ourselves around to our hearts content. Their first ticketed gig takes place next Friday with Red Hot Riot, a Wild Neo Rockabilly group.

The Depot

All hail the king of Friday night carnage that Cardiff just cannot get enough of. Restrictions lifted means only one thing for The Depot… the return of the absolute chaos that is Bingo Lingo! Get your mates together and start dusting off your giant pens, its time once again to battle it out for some fluffy slippers, inflatable crocodiles and FIVE WHOLE POUNDS!

That’s our list of just some of the venues reopening now restrictions have finally been lifted. We hope you have a brilliant freedom Friday whatever you do. Get out there and let your hair down! We’ve all earned it.
